Tegan Ceschi-Smith holds a Master’s of Art in Music Education from the University of British Columbia.  She is passionate about student-focused engagement and inspiring music education to learners of all ages. Her love of the violin and of making music with others started young, at the age of 4, when she became a member of the Brantford Suzuki String School in Ontario.

She completed her ARCT playing exam through the Royal Conservatory of Music in high school and holds a B.A. from the University of Guelph in “Women, Music, and Social Change”.  She has been a member and performer with a number of small ensembles and orchestras including the Little String Orchestra, the Brant Chamber Players, the Guelph Symphony, the National Youth Orchestra, the University of Guelph’s Contemporary Music Ensemble, Improvising Ensemble, and Orchestra, and more recently in a number of indie bands in Guelph, Ontario and Vancouver, BC, and with the Carnegie Community Jazz and Street Bands in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

With an interest in a diversity of music and twenty years of teaching experience, Tegan is an enthusiastic teacher and learner, and with a solid foundation in classical repertoire and technique, she has collaborated with numerous dancers and artists, and has branched out into jazz, rock, punk, and fiddle since moving to Vancouver in 2008. She now lives and teaches in her home in Sechelt and spends her spare time painting whales, hiking, swimming, snowshoeing, and canoeing in the lakes up the coast.
